چکیده

In this paper we describe an aspect of the Spring virtual memory system that was influenced by the distributed object-oriented architecture of Spring. The virtual memory system supports external pagers like those provided in the MACH® operating system, yet the architecture is more flexible and provides better caching opportunities than is possible in other systems. A novel aspect of the architecture is the separation of the memory abstraction from the interface that provides the paging operations. This separation provides considerable caching opportunities in our file system, and it facilitates our extensible stackable file system architecture. The virtual memory architecture described in this paper is implemented and has been in use for over three years as part of the experimental Spring operating system. A Sun Microsystems, Inc. A cost-effective approach to selective IP paging scheme using explicit multicast

In this paper, we propose a cost effective IP paging protocol, which can be used for terminal paging in next-generation wireless IP networks. In the existing IP paging protocols, a paging request packet is delivered to access routers belonging to a paging area by unicast or multicast. However, unicast and multicast result in higher cost, so that we present a selective paging algorithm utilizing...

User-level DSM System for Modern High-Performance Interconnection Networks

In this paper, we introduce a new user-level DSM system which has the ability to directly interact with underlying interconnection networks. The DSM system provides the application programmer a flexible API to program parallel applications either using shared memory semantics over physically distributed memory or to use an efficient remote memory demand paging technique. We also introduce a new...

Treatment of Pediatric Open Femoral Fractures with External Fixator Versus Flexible Intramedullary Nails

Background: In children, inappropriate treatment of open femoral fractures may induce several complications. A few studies have compared the external fixator with flexible intramedullary nails in high-grade open femoral fractures of children. The present study aims at comparing results of these two treatment methods in open femoral fractures. Methods: In this descriptive analytical study, 27 ...

Minimizing the Average Cost of Paging on the Air Interface – An Approach Considering Privacy

Location Management of mobile users in a cellular network is considered from a performance and privacy point of view. Location management covers tracking functionality and paging (searching) functionality. After a risk analysis of location management w.r.t. privacy, we focus on the paging strategy. A sequential search strategy is proposed which reduces the signaling on the air interface and als...

An implementation of an external pager interface on BSD UNIX

The benefits of virtual memory go without saying: almost every high-performance computer in existence today has one. The UNIX operating system traditionally provides a memory manager embedded within the kernel. This manager is dedicated to solving all virtual memory-related problems, such as page faults, main memory shortage, and so on. Because the clients of the memory manager include other co...
